Silence is not the absence of action - it’s the source of it.
Presence is power. In the quiet, your deepest knowing speaks. This tenet honors the strength in receptivity, reflection, and the unseen architecture behind real transformation.
Being on the go as a kid was fun – exhilarating even.
New adventures with every rise of the sun.
As we grow, the busyness of everyday life takes the lead.
Get up. Get ready. Go.
To school.
To work.
To practice.
To cook.
To clean.
To maintain.
Life can be busy and presence can be hard.
There is always a plethora of things to do.
But only so much time to do it in.
As we move through life, we manage all of these tasks by creating patterns.
Habits.
Behavior.
Identity.
We slowly automate our life to the subconscious mind.
Piece by piece.
Day by day.
Efficiency.
Convenience.
Comfort.
Safety.
Split second decisions that can send ripples rolling through decades of experience.
But what choice do we have?
Life moves faster and time feels like it is slipping between your fingers.
But is it?
Or are we just not paying attention?
Maybe our attention is just misplaced.
For a long time, I outsourced my happiness as a means of efficiency.
It felt hard to be happy. There was so much to be unhappy about and so much to do.
If I can just get through all of this… then I’ll feel okay.
Busy schedules.
Chores.
Work stress.
Relationship dynamics.
All hard.
Add in the digital revolution and now it wasn’t just hard–
others made it look so easy.
How do we step out of this loop?
One year at Christmas I was asked what I would like.
I wrote “happiness” – like it was something I was waiting for someone to give me.
Years flew by before I started to feel this. And I didn’t even know what “this” was.
Tension.
Texture.
My conscious mind started tugging on the subconscious.
Nudging it slightly to have a chance to speak.
Automations don’t like to be interrupted.
Nudges grew stronger. Resistance was forming. The main event was up next in the colosseum and it felt like it was to the death.
Instead of drawing my sword, I took a breath.
Not just any breath. A conscious breath.
I closed my eyes and felt the gentle breeze against the moisture in my nose.
My belly expanded as my diaphragm pushed down.
My lungs filled with air and pressed against my ribcage.
Like a wave rising in my abdomen, flowing up my chest.
I held it there for a moment, taking in the fullness, the sensation.
And then slowly let it roll back out.
My stomach settled.
Then my chest.
No effort.
No strain.
I let presence take over.
The colosseum was in my mind.
And for the first time, I wasn’t on the battlefield –
I was at the podium.
As I opened my eyes it was as if time was standing still.
The sun shone warm on my skin.
The birds singing in the distance.
The incredible smell of sweet fern.
The lightness of life in this moment.
I’d found happiness.
Not out there somewhere.
Right here.
Right now.
I just needed to allow myself to feel it.
All of the stress was still there.
Still bills to pay.
Deadlines to meet.
But for the first time, it held less weight.
I felt it in a different way.
Not delaying that moment to sometime into the future…
changed the entire relationship.
They weren’t fighting.
They were coexisting.
My sanctuary isn’t a place – it’s a state.
I bring it with me everywhere.
Life still happens, but my relationship with it shifts and changes as time goes on.
Some automations I leave on, but some I turn off.
When I feel texture, I pause.
I return to the podium.
And in those moments, I find strength.
You don’t have to stop your life to find stillness.
You just have to stop…
long enough to feel it.
Even for a breath.
Because in that space…
something begins to speak
that doesn’t need to rush.
